Why Elon Musk’s X, Formerly Twitter, Is Down

Users of the X platform—formerly known as Twitter—were unable to access their timelines for almost an hour today due to a major outage.

Users of all mobile apps saw their timelines frozen, and users of the web version saw a placeholder message that said, "Welcome to X! The greatest spot to see what's going on in your world is right here. Now choose some people and subjects to follow.

Posting on the site still works, but the posts disappear when you refresh it. Push alerts for new posts are functioning, and accounts that have enabled notifications still show up in the feed. Surprisingly, despite the inability to view new posts, a Space moderated by New York Times reporter Ryan Mac is now interacting with over 800 individuals on the outage.

Even well-known accounts have been impacted by the outage, making their content unavailable. These accounts belong to X CEO Linda Yaccarino, Elon Musk, and Support. There are no current issues listed on the service's API Status page.
The issues started immediately before 12:30 AM ET, according to reports on DownDetector. As of right now, neither the reason of the problem nor a projected timeframe for service restoration are known with certainty.
This is not the platform's first major disruption in a while. Another problem disrupted outgoing links for many hours last week. The platform's PR account email was used to try and get clarity, however all that was returned was an automated "Busy now, please check back later" message.

Users who depend on Premium services or who are not yet paid will have to look for updates about the whereabouts of X through other methods. A website that tracks outages on online platforms, Downdetector, has recorded an astounding 70,000 reports from users who are having trouble with the X platform—formerly known as Twitter. As of the time of publishing, no formal announcement or details on the underlying source of this pervasive problem has been made public.

Similar outages occurred in March and July of this year for X. More than 13,000 outages reported in the US and the UK were recorded by Downdetector in July. Users saw the warning "Sorry, you are rate limited" at that period. Kindly wait a short while before attempting again.
