Meta's Facebook and Instagram platforms encountered widespread technical issues on Tuesday, affecting a significant number of users who encountered difficulties accessing these social media services.
Numerous users reported experiencing problems such as unexpected logouts from Facebook. Upon attempting to log back in, they encountered error messages indicating issues with the service, such as "Something went wrong. Please try again." According to Downdetector, a monitoring service, reports of errors surged just after 10:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday. By 11 a.m., Downdetector had amassed over 500,000 error reports.
Furthermore, Instagram users noted that their feed failed to refresh during this period. The outage also impacted Meta's Messaging platform and Threads, the Twitter-like app launched by the company last year.
Representatives for Meta, the parent company, were not immediately available to respond to requests for comment on the matter.
